Objective 3

 

Demonstrate professional behavior congruent with the NASW Code of Ethics and apply strategies to effectively identify, address, and resolve ethical conflicts in professional practice.

Rationale:  For this objective, I chose to use a case presentation I developed regarding a client I was counseling for adolescent anger management.  A requirement of the case presentation was that I had to state a problem that I was having and ask my peers for feedback on the issue.  The issue pertained to my client’s right to privacy.  My client was a adolescent who was brought to anger management by his mother.  His mother informed me after the intake that she had caught him stealing and she wanted to know how far it had gone.  My client expressed to me a number of things he had stole, but none of that information was to be told to the mother because my client has a right to confidentiality.  My question that I posed to the class was, how do I get my client to understand the affects of consequences if I wasn’t permitted to tell his past transgressions.
